It’s been a year! We read banned books, celebrated World Teachers’ Day, and hosted underground spirit weeks. After the election, concerns about what might happen to the Department of Education are top of mind. And what teachers will need to improve education was never far from our minds.

We asked teachers in our We Are Teachers Helpline group on Facebook what they were thankful for and had accomplished this year and are buoyed by what we heard. Teachers are the best!

First, teachers found things to love right where they are.

“I switched grade levels after 8 years in the same grade.”

“I got to loop with my class from last year and I’m really proud of the relationship and community we have built.” —Kelli B.

“I am grateful for an administrator who supported staff with doughnuts, birthday cards, and extra time during the day.”

—T.A.S.

Teachers worked hard for students—and had some amazing wins!

“I enjoy feedback from children when they ask for activities that were completed a while ago.”

“That tells me the lesson sparked interest, curiosity, and a love of learning.” —Joyce T.

“I managed a student’s use of A.I. positively, preserving his dignity and getting real work out of him.”

—Anne E.A.

Some teachers wrapped up one experience and moved on to the next!

“I retired and am opening my own microschool!”

—Stacie F.S.

“I left a school environment that was hurting my mental health.”

“I switched districts and grade levels and am much happier now. Starting over is hard, but I did it anyway and am proud of myself for it.” —Liz S.

Teachers shared what they learned with others!

“I presented at a national education conference.”

“They had to add another session for my topic because interest was so high. That felt pretty darn good!” —Michi L.

We already knew it: Teachers are amazing! Cheers to 2024 and to the new year ahead.
